Third year project at Norwich University of the Arts. I was tasked with creating a hero prop and a scene around the chosen theme, "A World Without Truth", with the optional choice to base it around an existing studio's game and art style. Being a huge fan of Helldivers 2, I designed my scene's narrative around the idea that a part of the Helldivers Corp. retrieved an Automaton skull with an encrypted message. And when they hooked it up to a computer, they discovered a horrific truth. The deciphered message showed that the Automatons never wanted war and just wanted to be left alone in peace. The Helldivers, having learned this and realised they had been lied to by Super Earth's Minister of Truth, defected and later became the Purgedivers, vowing to cleanse all Super Earth citizens of the Minister of Truth's lies and brainwashing. The twist being: "Was the deciphered message truthful? Or was it more lies?" Do the Automatons really want peace, or have they deceived the newly formed Purgedivers to promote infighting amongst humanity, thus weakening Liberty's fist, from within...
This project was an extremely fun world-building experience for me. I was able to explore one of my favourite games and delve deeper into its lore. Where I was able to combine a themed narrative with asset production. I was also able to learn and practice creating assets following existing concept art, and in-game references. As well as follow a distinct art style. Which has helped me enhance my development skills.
